Where embodied intelligence meets the frontier. / EMBODIED AI × ROBOTICS

Chronicling every step of embodied intelligence and robotics as they move from the lab into the real world. This is an open community — we explore how robots learn to see, think, and act, and share each hands-on journey.

SYS.01 / INDUSTRY PULSE

Industry Pulse

2026 is widely called the "year of embodied data at scale" — the industry is shifting from tech demos to volume production. Key milestones, month by month.

2026.01 — DATA LIFTOFF

Data takes off: scaling before production

2026 is dubbed the "year of embodied data at scale." IDC projects China's embodied-intelligence robotics spending to reach US$77B by 2030 (≈94% CAGR, 2025–2030); Morgan Stanley expects ~14K humanoid shipments in China in 2026, roughly doubling year over year to 1M+ by 2034.

2026.03 — GO GLOBAL

Chinese robots go global: MWC 2026 Barcelona

At MWC 2026, the biggest crowds weren't around 6G or AI phones — they were around robots, especially the Chinese pavilion. AGIBOT, Unitree, MagicAtom and others drew heavy attention and signed deals on-site, a clear sign of the going-global push.

GOING GLOBALMWC 2026
2026.04 — ORDERS

Order surge: a commercial inflection point

Listed companies such as Duolun Tech (603528.SH) disclosed scaled humanoid commercial orders. The industry's yardstick shifted from "tech concept" to "business closed loop" — capital now asks for delivery sheets and warehouse ROI, not slide decks.

ORDERSCOMMERCIAL TURNING POINT
2026.05 — GLOBAL GIANTS

Global giants step in: from virtual to physical

International watch: Meta acquired embodied-AI firm Assured Robot Intelligence (ARI) in May, formally pivoting to humanoids; NVIDIA keeps deepening its embodied ecosystem. LLM players are extending from text and images into action in the physical world.

2026.06 — REFERENCE HW

Reference hardware arrives: NVIDIA picks Unitree H2 Plus

At GTC Taipei, NVIDIA named Unitree's H2 Plus (75 DOF) its Isaac GR00T academic reference humanoid. Around the same time, AGIBOT's 15,000th embodied robot rolled off the line — capacity entering an acceleration phase.

2026.07 — TACTILE YEAR

The year of touch: embodied AI takes center stage at WAIC 2026

WAIC 2026 made embodied intelligence a core showcase. Tactile sensing heated up fast: NeuTouch × Fudan released NeoTactile with 30,000 hours of tactile data; Zhiwuwujie shipped Being-H0.8, the first implicit tactile world-action model with touch pretraining at scale.

WAIC 2026TACTILENEOTACTILE
2026.08 — TOP CHANGED

The leader changes: AGIBOT ships 8,400 units in H1

AGIBOT shipped 8,400 humanoids in H1 2026 (~44% global share), taking the top spot. The same month, Daimon Robotics released Daimon-TWM — the world's first tactile-grounded world model — and closed a strategic round led by Ant Group. Embodied AI enters the "tactile era."

2026.09 — PRODUCTION SPRINT

Volume sprint: 100K+ units expected this year

China's humanoid production is expected to exceed 100,000 units in 2026; 14 mainstream automakers have declared humanoid programs; Unitree is building a "three bases, two centers" embodied-AI cluster in Chengdu. Robots are moving from backflips at trade shows to shift work on the line.

SYS.02 / FRONTIER LAB

Frontier Lab

The essential tech of embodied intelligence, explained plainly. First the big picture: how a robot closes the loop from perception to cognition to action.

STAGE 1

PERCEPTION

  • RGB-D vision / LiDAR SLAM
  • Tactile sensors (GelSight / 6-axis fingertips)
  • Proprioception (IMU / joint torque)
STAGE 2

COGNITION

  • VLA vision-language-action models
  • World models (predicting the next instant)
  • Task planning / semantic understanding
STAGE 3

MOTION

  • Motion control (MPC / reinforcement learning)
  • Dexterous manipulation (force control / teleop)
  • Safety & self-recovery

VLA Models

VISION-LANGUAGE-ACTION

End-to-end models that map what a robot sees plus a natural-language command directly into actions. The industry expects the first 100B-parameter VLA by end of 2026 — a key test of whether scaling laws hold for embodied intelligence.

Open problem · generalization: on the libero-ood benchmark, mainstream VLAs typically drop below 21% — "amnesia" when the scene changes.

World Models

WORLD / ACTION MODEL

From "what do I see" to "what happens next": NVIDIA's DreamZero (14B) is a world-action model that transfers skills across robot morphologies; Daimon-TWM is the first to anchor a world model in tactile sensing.

Goal · one-hour coherent physical prediction — approaching "simulation in the head."

Touch, the Last Centimeter

TACTILE SENSING

Plugging cables, seating USB, turning screws, gripping soft objects — the "last centimeter" vision can't solve needs touch. Tactile VLAs exploded in 2026; NeoTactile even predicts tactile changes 50 steps ahead.

Representative · VLA-Touch / NeoTactile-VTLA / Daimon TWM

Edge & On-Device

EDGE / ON-DEVICE

Putting VLA inference on the robot itself, no cloud required: lower latency, safer data, works offline. On-device VLA reasoning is becoming standard for volume-produced robots.

Trend · cloud-free · edge compute surge

Dexterous Manipulation

DEXTEROUS MANIPULATION

From "can grab" to "can pinch and twist": tactile + force control + teleoperation are converging, pushing hands toward human-level precision — the key to real homes and factories.

Hardware · tactile fingertips / biomimetic hands

Teaching a robot dog to stand up on its own after a fall

From tweaking MPC gains to retraining the leg policy with reinforcement learning, to injecting random disturbances into the data loop — the full journey of a little dog that went from "falls at a touch" to "staggers twice and stands." Plus every pit we fell into along the way.

WAIC 2026 embodied floor tour: from backflips to factory shifts

Embodied intelligence was the show's core this year. The clearest takeaway: vendors now compete on "can it work 7×24 on the line, and how fast does the customer break even," not "can it do a backflip." Field notes attached.
